Volunteers provide academic support to students in classroom settings. Typical responsibilities include assisting with homework or classwork, working one-on-one with students, supporting academic development, and helping students build confidence in their learning. Depending on classroom needs, volunteers may also assist teachers with lesson preparation, supervise group work, or help organize educational activities. Responsibilities may vary based on the grade level, subject area, and classroom needs.
Volunteers will receive training that covers essential skills and knowledge needed for their role. All volunteers are required to complete mandatory online training modules prior to their placement. These modules provide essential preparation in areas such as classroom management, safety protocols, effective communication, and an overview of volunteer responsibilities. In addition, the McMaster branch will hold a mandatory in-person training session on campus to further support volunteer preparation. Our goal is to ensure you feel confident and prepared to support students effectively.
Undergraduate students from the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Saskatchewan, McMaster University, University of Toronto, and Wilfrid Laurier University are able to participate.
